Alec Baldwin insists he ‘didn’t pull the trigger’ of prop gun in first interview about Rust shooting

Alec Baldwin has insisted he “didn’t pull the trigger” of the gun that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in his first interview about the shooting.

The 42-year-old was tragically killed on the set of Rust in New Mexico back in October, after a prop gun Alec was holding went off during a rehearsal.

In his first televised interview since her death, the 63-year-old broke down in tears as he spoke to George Stephanopoulos about the incident for an ABC News Special.

In a teaser clip of the interview, which will air in the US tonight, Alec said Halyna was “someone who was loved by everyone who worked with her”.

George then asked: “It wasn’t in the script for the trigger to be pulled?”

Alec replied: “Well the trigger wasn’t pulled, I did not pull the trigger… No, no, no, no, no, I would never point a gun at anyone and pull a trigger at them, never.”

When asked, “how did a real bullet get on that set?”, the actor said: “I have no idea, someone put a live bullet in a gun, a bullet that wasn’t even supposed to be on the property.”

At the end of the promo clip, George asks Alec: “You said you’re not a victim, but is this the worst thing that’s ever happened to you?”

The emotional 63-year-old responded: “Yes. Because I think back, and I think of ‘what could I have done?'”

Alec’s full interview will air on ABC in the US at 1am Irish time on Friday.
