Alec Baldwin breaks his silence on fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins

Alec Baldwin has broken his silence on the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

The 42-year-old was pronounced dead on Thursday, after the actor accidentally misfired a prop gun on the set of his new movie ‘Rust’ in New Mexico.

In a statement, Alec said: “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.”

“I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family,” he continued.

“My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”

According to a press release shared by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, the actor “discharged” a prop firearm on set, which also injured the film’s director Joel Souza.

Officers were called to the Bonanza Creek Ranch in New Mexico, where the incident occurred, at about 1.50 pm on Thursday, after receiving a 911 call.

Halyna, 42, was transported via helicopter to University of New Mexico Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

It’s understood detectives are investigating how and what type of projectile was discharged.

According to a statement released by Rust Movie Productions LLC, the entire cast and crew are “absolutely devastated” over the tragedy.

Offering their “deepest condolences” to Halyna’s family and loved ones, the production company said: “We have halted production on the film for an undetermined period of time and are fully cooperating with the Santa Fe Police Department’s investigation.”

“We will be providing counseling services to everyone connected to the film as we work to process this awful event.”
