Top Irish director Terry McMahon has admitted that he was homeless for a year and a half.

Speaking at a press conference with Home Sweet Home, he explained the hard work that many of the artists, including Glen Hansard and Hozier, have given towards the fight against homelessness.

“I know what it’s like to drag yourself out of that. I’ve also dealt with the banks first-hand,” he said.

“I’ve seen the kind of scum that they are as they tried to repossess my family home.

“It’s an honour to be in the company of these people and anybody who is cynical enough to think that these artists are trying to promote themselves is not just a moron, but look at the basic facts – these people are getting out of bed in the morning, walking into a room, trying to make a difference, not just for themselves but for everyone else.”
