EXCLUSIVE! Gay Byrne insists: 'No one can host the Late Late Show better than Ryan Tubridy'

Gay Byrne has revealed he doesn’t think that there is anyone out there who could replace Ryan Tubridy as The Late Late Show host.

Speaking exclusively to Goss.ie, Gay insisted that Ryan is already the perfect host for the famous chat show.

Adding that he doesn’t see any need for the next presenter to be female after Ryan hangs up his boots.

“I am not in favour of this male/female quota or anything, I do believe that talent has something to do with it and aptitude and a nose for a story and interviewing skills,” he said.

“I think at the moment there is no vacancy because I can’t think of anyone who would do it better than Ryan Tubridy.”

Speaking at the launch of the Diageo Guinness World War 1 Archive Exhibition at The Little Museum of Dublin, Gay said he is delighted to see Ray D’Arcy back at RTE.

“I think he’s very good and he’s settled in. It will be a completely different set up for him than what he’s used to as he’s used to driving his own bus where he was doing the show and it’s slightly different in RTE.”

“But as far as I am concerned he has settled in wonderfully, I was listening to him yesterday and he did some lovely interviews, he’s going to be fine,” he told Goss.ie.

Wonderful: Gay thinks Ray is doing a great job at RTE

Meanwhile, Gay admitted he was shocked about the huge reaction to his controversial interview with Stephen Fry where the comedian gave his thoughts on God and religion.

“Yes I was surprised. Other people have spoken even more forcibly about their non-belief like Bob Geldof and Richard Branson and our own Maeve Binchy.

“But the difference was he put it out on the internet so the furore and the interest followed that,” he explained.

“But there you are, a little unimportant programme going out at 10:30 gets five million views, so we must be doing something right.”
