Lawyer from Netflix's Making A Murderer documentary reveals Irish roots

One of the lawyer’s from popular Netflix documentary Making a Murderer, Dean Strang, has revealed his connection to Ireland.

The attorney became known worldwide after appearing in one of the most talked about crime documentaries representing murder accused Steven Avery.

While filming the documentary, eagle-eyed Irish viewers spotted an artefact that resembled our national game of hurling on his desk – and now he’s finally revealed how he’s connection to our Emerald Isle.

“It indeed is an Irish hurling statue, as others have noticed,” Dean admitted.

“I have a very good friend who is a first generation Irish-American and who grew up in Chicago.

“He gave me that small statue some years ago. I’ve never been to a hurling game,” he told the Irish Sun.

Although Dean is a fan of Ireland and admits that he has Irish ancestors, he has never actually visited the country.

“I’ve never been to Ireland, notwithstanding the 25 per cent of my genome rooted in your soil. Some day, I have to see one [hurling match],” he explained.

Dean and his co-attorney Jerry Buting have been named heroes worldwide for their attempts to free Steven Avery, who served 18 years behind bars for rape before being exonerated on DNA evidence.

Now, Dean admits that they have particularly received great feedback from Ireland, both thanks to their role in the documentary and also thanks to the hurling statue that caught everyone’s attention.

“I have had huge feedback from Ireland, both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland,” he explained.

“About half of it interested in the subject of the documentary and about half of it interested in the hurling statue. All good-humoured, too.”
