WATCH: Prince Harry delivers speech about ‘standing up for what you believe in’ on final day of royal tour

His speech came just hours after he slammed the British press for bullying his wife Meghan Markle

Prince Harry has delivered a personal speech on the final day of his visit to South Africa with wife Meghan Markle.

Bringing their tour to an end, The Duke and Duchess visited Tembisa in Johanessburg this morning.

The couple met with young entrepreneurs at a social enterprise hub, just hours after news broke about Meghan’s plans to sue UK tabloid The Mail on Sunday.

Speaking to the attendees, Harry said the couple “firmly stand up for” what they believe during a passionate speech.

He said: “It’s moments like today and meeting all of you, that inspires us. Whether supporting young entrepreneurs, empowering women and girls, or challenging the issue of gender-based violence.”

“Whether it’s been planting trees, clearing landmines, or protecting the most beautiful creatures and places on the planet, these experiences have affirmed our love of Africa, and the issues that are so important to us.”

“We will firmly stand up for what we believe. We are fortunate enough to have a position that gives us amazing opportunities, and we want to do all we can to play our part in building a better world,” he continued.

“We will always seek to challenge injustice and to speak out for those who may feel unheard.”

“So no matter your background, your nationality, your age or gender, your sexuality, your physical ability, no matter your circumstance or colour or of your skin – we believe in you, and we intend to spend our entire lives making sure you have the opportunity to succeed – and to change the world.”

The couple have spent the last 10 days in Southern Africa, participating in a number of engagements  – including meeting Desmond Tutu, and retracing Princess Diana’s footsteps.

Harry and Meghan marked the end of their tour just hours after the Duke confirmed his wife’s plans to take legal action against the Mail on Sunday and it’s parent company Associated Newspapers.

The Duchess of Sussex filed a claim against Associated Newspapers over the misuse of private information, infringement of copyright and breach of the Data Protection Act 2018.

The proceedings in the Chancery Division of the High Court relate to the unlawful publication of a private letter.

A legal spokesperson from Schillings who are representing The Duchess of Sussex said: “We have initiated legal proceedings against the Mail on Sunday, and its parent company Associated Newspapers, over the intrusive and unlawful publication of a private letter written by the Duchess of Sussex, which is part of a campaign by this media group to publish false and deliberately derogatory stories about her, as well as her husband.”

“Given the refusal of Associated Newspapers to resolve this issue satisfactorily, we have issued proceedings to redress this breach of privacy, infringement of copyright and the aforementioned media agenda.”

The couple’s also confirmed that the case is being privately funded by them, and pending a court ruling, proceeds from any damages will be donated to an anti-bullying charity.
