Stormzy cancels gig at the last minute – after claiming his manager and friends were ‘racially profiled by security’

The rapper is NOT happy

Stormzy cancelled his scheduled performance at Snowbombing Festival in Mayrhofen, Austria at the last minute on Thursday.

Taking to Instagram, the 25-year-old explained what happened in a series of posts, after festival organisers announced that he would no longer be performing.

He started his rant by writing: “First and foremost f*** @snowbombingofficial Bunch of p****holes.”

The rapper continued: “My sincerest apologies to anyone who travelled all that way to watch me perform I’m genuinely upset that you’ve wasted your time and money and that burns me more than you’d know.”

“The last ever thing I wanna do is let down anyone who’s taken time out to support me. So please hear me out, I too would be fuming if I travelled and spent money to go and watch an artist and they pull out last minute.

“However if these are the drastic steps that I need to take to make a point against racism and racial profiling then trust me I’m taking it. And, I’m very genuinely sorry that’s the expense of supports and festival go-ers who’ve spent their time and money,” he explained.

“My manager and all my friends who were at the festival were racially profiled, targeted and aggressively handled because they had ‘reason to believe someone was carrying a weapon.”

“The security targeted them (despite no one fitting the description), were physically aggressive when handling them and there’s been no effort from the festival to actually deal and address the problem.”

“This is the kind of soul draining sh** black people gotta deal with all the f***ing time and I’m so sick of it, so f*** the festival and f*** the performance.

“Again deeply sorry to who came but I need you to understand why this is necessary in the grand scheme of tryna fight back against racism,” he added.

Then, a fan wrote to Stormy on Twitter to say: “Been to this festival more times that I can count. I can honestly say the security team here are kindest, most welcoming collection group of humans you could ever meet. Sounds like an honest mistake and Stormzy is making his fans suffer. Poor form.”

But Stormy fired back: “Yes Chris, you p****. I’m sure they’re very polite and an absolute pleasure. Young black people always seem to be on the receiving end of these ‘honest mistakes’ it’s kinda funny. How many ‘honest mistakes’ do you find being made against you?”

“Sorry if I can’t comprehend security making an ‘honest mistake when for the past 25 years me and my brothers are always being told that the harassment against us is just ‘honest mistakes.'”

In a statement, festival organisers said: “Snowbombing regrets to inform you that Stormzy will no longer be performing at the festival this evening. Last night (Wednesday 10) Snowbombing’s security were alerted to the possibility that an individual at the festival was allegedly carrying a weapon.”

“In accordance with protocol, a small number of attendees, including Stormzy’s manager were escorted to the nearest exit, searched and no weapon was found. Stormzy’s management were unhappy with the manner by which this took place and as a result Stormzy will no longer be performing tonight.”

“This evening’s Forest Party will now not go ahead as planned. We are deeply saddened that any individual would feel uncomfortable at Snowbombing.

“Snowbombing would like to wholeheartedly apologise to Stormzy’s team. We are doing everything we can to understand the full situation and are treating this with the utmost seriousness to ensure this does not happen again,” they added.
