Princess Charlotte will make history this month when her new sibling is born.
Kate Middleton is due to give birth later this month and the gender of her new child won’t effect Princess Charlotte’s right to the throne.
A legislative act passed in 2011 means that even if the Duchess of Cambridge gives birth to a baby boy Princess Charlotte will remain fourth in line to the throne.
Traditionally male heirs right to the throne were prioritised but this changed in 2011.
The act removed the role of gender in determining the line of succession to the throne.
“In determining the succession to the Crown, the gender of a person born after 28 October 2011 does not give that person, or that person’s descendants, precedence over any other person (whenever born).”
The heavily pregnant Duchess caused amusement when she was spotted doing a very banal task this week.
