Scotland Yard is investigating after a letter containing white powder was addressed to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry at Kensington Palace.

The letter sparked a full security scare, and officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism command were rushed in to check the substance before it reached the couple.

However, the Evening Standard has reported that after analysis of the powder, it was found to be harmless.

It’s understood that the engaged couple, who are set to wed in May, were informed of the incident.

The letter was was sent to Kensington Palace on February 12, a day before police revealed that a package containing white powder had been sent to the Palace of Westminster.

According to reports, the second letter was sent to the office of Home Secretary Amber Rudd at the Houses of Parliament, and the material inside was also found to be harmless.

An investigation is now underway to trace the senders of the letters, and to see if the letters are linked, but there have been no arrests so far.

The incident has put Scotland Yard on high alert ahead of the couple’s Royal wedding on May 19.

Meghan and Harry are due to ride around a public route to greet crowds in a carriage after they wed at St George’s Chapel on Saturday May 19, and security for the day is under constant review.

Ahead of their royal wedding, Meghan has been assigned a security team from the Met’s Royalty and Specialist Protection Command.

The bride-to-be will also have received a number of briefings on security, and how she should react in a threatening situation.

This isn’t the first time the Royal family have been subject to threats.

Most recently last October, a terror suspect allegedly encouraged extremists to attack Prince George at school. A 31-year-old man is due to face trial in connection with the threat in April.
