Mike Thalassitis’ parents close GoFundMe page due to concerns over ‘fraudulent accounts’

Mike Thalassitis’ parents have closed a GoFundMe page set up by his friends, due to concerns over “fraudulent accounts.”

The reality star was found “hanged” earlier this month, days after his grandmother passed away.

Mike’s friends set up a GoFundMe page for the Love Island star’s parents to help fund his funeral and be donated to a mental health charity of their choice.

The page raised nearly £5,000 out of its £25,000 target in just one day, but it has since been shut down due to concerns from Mike’s parents.

“Thank you all for your generous donations thus far. I have spoken with Mike’s family and while they are grateful for all of the support his friends have given, they have asked to close the gofundme at this time,” his friend wrote on the page.

“Please be assured the money raised to date will go directly to the family who intend to open a new page controlled by themselves in due course. All proceeds will then be consolidated and donated to a mental health charity of their choice.”

“While this particular page was created by his close friends, they are concerned that fraudulent accounts could be activated by strangers using their name. Therefore, please do not donate to any other pages until an official statement has been made by the immediate Thalassitis family within the next week or so.”

“Thank you again for all of your support during this difficult time.”

Many Love Island stars hit out at the show’s bosses following Mike’s death, as they claimed there was no psychological support for contestants when they left the villa.

Executives of the programme have since released a statement saying that there will be pre-show training and therapy available to future islanders.
