Mel B attempted suicide by taking 200 pills days before X Factor final

Mel B attempted suicide by taking 200 aspirin pills, just days before the X Factor final in 2014.

The mother-of-three detailed her struggle with depression and drug addiction, which led her to attempting to take her own life four years ago.

In the singer’s new autobiography, ‘Brutally Honest’, she wrote about her cocaine addiction and marriage, which she claimed was abusive.

Mel revealed that just two days prior to the X Factor final in 2014, she took 200 aspirin pills, before she realised that she didn’t want to die and tried to throw herself against the doorframe of a jammed door to make it to hospital in time.

“Behind the glitter of fame, I felt emotionally battered, estranged from my family. I felt ugly and detested by the very man who once promised to love and protect me, my husband and my manager Stephen,” the 43-year-old wrote.

The singer revealed that Simon Cowell was one of the first people she rang when she arrived in hospital: “I remember he didn’t sound horrified, just calm, like he knew it’s what I needed from him.”

“I needed all those bruises to be seen. My message to the world and to my husband was going to be very clear. I wanted people out there watching to be my witnesses,” she wrote, explaining that she did go to the X Factor final.
