Mel B has allegedly been accused of taking cocaine in front of her children, as she continues to battle her ex Stephen Belafonte in court.
The former Spice Girl, who is a mother-of-three, has been accused of having a secret addiction to drugs and alcohol.
In court documents, Mel’s estranged husband Stephen made a legal declaration claiming that her drug and alcohol addiction was the real reason behind their split, after she accused him of mentally and physically abusing her during their marriage.
According to The Sun Online, the declaration was filed at Los Angeles Superior Court, alongside copies of text messages between Stephen, Mel, and marriage therapist Dr Charles Sophy.
In the legal papers, Stephen stated, “The biggest reason for my concern with respect to the safety of the children was due to the Petitioner’s habitual and consistent addiction to and abuse of cocaine and alcohol.
“To make matters worse, my fear for the children’s safety was amplified due to the fact that Petitioner had fired the children’s nanny, who had been in the children’s lives since 2010…
“And I did not want Petitioner using drugs and drinking around the children especially without anyone else present to care for the children.
“Petitioner’s drinking and drug abuse had been a major issue throughout our marriage and was witnessed by the nanny, the children, and her own therapist, Dr Sophy.”
The film producer claimed that the issue got worse after Mel fired nanny Lorraine Gilles, who she later accused of bedding Stephen and aborting his baby.
The papers also claimed that Mel had agreed to take a drug to help fight her alcohol addiction, so that she could care for her kids, Madison, 6, Angel, 10 , and Phoenix Chi, 18.
They also revealed that Mel was having injections of Vivitrol every 30 days from March this year. Vivitrol is used to prevent relapse in alcoholics.
It was also alleged that Dr. Sophy had been administering regular tests on Mel’s hair to make sure she was clean.
Stephen also addressed their custody battle over his daughter Madison and his step-daughter Angel, whose father is actor Eddie Murphy.
“I am the step-parent to Angel and I have been the only father that Angel has ever truly known since her infancy,” he wrote. “I did not want either Madison or Angel hurt or damaged by this divorce. The most important thing to me was to protect the well-being of our children.
“Petitioner and I agreed and prepared our children and told them together that nothing was going to change after this divorce and that the only main difference is that we would just have two separate homes…”
The papers also alleged that Angel had no idea that Stephen wasn’t her biological father.
“Throughout our marriage and even post-separation, Angel had no idea that I was not her biological father. The children cried and I assured them that Petitioner and I both love them and would see them all the time and I would never leave them.”
Mel and Stephen split back in December, after 10 years of marriage.
However, news of their split didn’t break until Mel filed for divorce in March, and later filed for a restraining order to keep Stephen away from her.
