Meghan Markle has been breaking royal rules since she began dating Prince Harry and it doesn’t look like she’ll stop disrupting their traditions any time soon.
The 36-year-old has disrupted another tradition when she was awarded her own coat of arms.
Traditionally the coat of arms is presented tot he father of the bride but in light of the drama that ensued with Thomas Markle staged paparazzi photos and subsequent heart attack the the Queen presented it directly to the former Suits actress.

Kensington Palace tweeted to say, “A Coat of Arms has been created for The Duchess of Sussex. The design of the Arms was agreed and approved by Her Majesty The Queen and Mr. Thomas Woodcock (Garter King of Arms and Senior Herald in England), who is based at the College of Arms in London.”
The newlywed is said to have worked closely with the College of Arms on the design. The Pacific Ocean off the California coast, where she moved to England from, is represented by the blue on the back of the shield. Two golden rays across the shield also pay homage to her hometown, Los Angeles. The brd appears to be choked by the crown, the symbolism for which has yet to be explained.
The three quills represent communication and the power of words, perhaps a sign that she intends to continue her activism as a royal.
