Major stars including Liam Payne and Stormzy to record Simon Cowell’s Grenfell charity single

Simon Cowell has recruited some major stars for his charity single to raise money for the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire in London.

The music mogul has named Liam Payne, Stormzy, The Who, Craig David, Skepta, James Arthur and Emeli Sande as just some of the artists involved.

And the song that has been chosen is the 1970s hit Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel.

As the death toll from the devastating blaze has risen from 12 to over 30 in the last 24 hours, with many more expected to be dead, the money raised by the single will go to the families of those lost in the fire, as well as victims who lost their homes.

Speaking to The Sun, Simon said, “Until that last note has been finished, we will not be off the phone … We started 24 hours ago and already we’re getting calls coming in, mainly from Brits.

“A lot of London artists, people like Skepta, Stormzy, Emile Sande, The London Community Gospel Choir, all wanted to be involved.

“I got calls from David Joseph and Max Lousada at Warners. I sent them an email last night and they rang me back first thing this morning to say they’ll do whatever they can to help. It’s been an all round support and effort here,” he explained.

Simon previously told Good Morning Britain, “I hope it will prick a few people’s consciousness and it might spur someone on to do something else. We can do more than just a record.

“We will record it Sunday at the latest Monday, people who can’t make it physically to the studio we can record their vocals wherever they are in the world.

“The song [choice] is important because it has to be sincere, it has to have the right message, it has to mean something to the people affected. I genuinely believe it will make a difference.”

The X Factor boss also said that he’d love to get Adele on the record, who has already shown her support by showing up to a vigil earlier this week and offering help to the victims.

“I would love to get Adele on the record, after she did what she did,” he said.

According to reports, the single will be available to download from Monday.
