Here’s why Meghan Markle WON’T receive money from the Royal Family when she marries Prince Harry

It looks like Meghan Markle won’t get a penny from the Royal family, when she marries Prince Harry – well not yet anyway.

The Hollywood actress has given up her glamorous career to become dutiful wife, and thankfully she has made huge money from her show Suits – as she won’t be able to use Royal money just yet.

While Meghan is now living in the UK, she is still a US citizen, and has only applied for British citizenship.

It can take up to three years to be a British citizen and until then, Meghan can’t take any money in.

Harry is pretty set up; when Princess Diana died Prince Harry received half of her £21.5million estate and shares a £3.5million annual allowance with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

It’s being reported now that Markle won’t be receiving any of that money, at risk of paying income tax to the United States’ Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

“Even when married to a member of the British royal family, as long as she remains a US citizen she will have to pay income tax,” Royal expert Marlene Koenig told The Sun.

“If she has investments in the United States, say for example a retirement plan that she set up, if that’s making money, she would have to pay up.

“This is even on money earned outside the United States. If she receives money from her husband or his family, and that’s considered income, she would have to pay income tax on that.”

Apparently Meghan has more than £221,529 worth of assets in any given tax year, she’ll be expected to file a document, which could include foreign trusts and details of the royal family’s estate that was previously kept private.

But Meghan should already have her own cash, as she reportedly earned £36,920 for each episode of Suits and has an estimated net worth of around £3.7million.
