Benedict Cumberbatch became a real-life superhero over the weekend when he jumped out the Uber he was in to save a Deliveroo driver who was being attacked by muggers.
The attackers had struck the cyclist over the head with a glass bottle before Benedict and his Uber driver, Manuel Dias came to the rescue.
The Sherlock actor said at the Hay Literary Festival he was “no hero,” and also told The Sun that, “There are real-life heroes out there and I’m not one of them.” Too modest.
The Uber driver recounted how the “brave and selfless” star fought off four muggers near London’s Baker Street. Coincidentally that street is the fictional home of his highly acclaimed role, Sherlock Holmes, in the BBC series Sherlock.
Manuel told The Sun, “They tried to hit him but he defended himself and pushed them away. He wasn’t injured. Then I think they also recognised it was Benedict and ran away.”
