Meghan Markle to attend first official event alongside the Queen

Meghan Markle will appear alongside the Queen this week at Westminster Abbey for Commonwealth Day.

According to Metro, the event will be a public acknowledgement by the Queen of Meghan, who will soon be joining her family when she marries Prince Harry.

Meghan, who is set to marry Prince Harry on May 19th, will attend the event along with the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry and the Prime Minister.

Liam Payne is set to perform at the event, and afterwards it has been reported that Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry and Meghan will attend a private reception for guests that have been involved in the event.

Prince Harry said at the time of his engagement to Meghan that himself and Meghan “looked forward to travelling around the Commonwealth, meeting some of the 2.4 billion people from the 53 member states”.

Organised by the Royal Commonwealth Society, the Commonwealth service is the largest annual inter-faith gathering in the UK, and will be broadcast live by the BBC.

The theme for this year’s service is Towards a Common Future, emphasising how the Commonwealth can address global challenges and work to create a better future for all citizens through the sub-themes of sustainability, safety, prosperity and fairness.

The news comes after Meghan was baptised and confirmed in a private service last week.
