Zara McDermott opens up about being bullied on the X Factor

Last night, Zara McDermott opened up about the bullying she faced as a child.

The Love Island star is currently part of a super group on the celebrity version of the X Factor.

The star, who has appeared on Made in Chelsea, explained that music was her “sanctuary” from the bullying she faced as a teenager.

The 22-year-old opened up in front of millions of viewers on Saturday night’s The X Factor: Celebrity show, revealing: “I got so badly bullied in school that I was put off performing.”

“For me, being able to go home at night and play my piano was a sanctuary.”

“I didn’t really have many friends in school, so going home playing my piano, writing my music, doing my producing and stuff… that was my little escape.”

“For me, doing X Factor is about personal growth and personal development.”

Zara has been known for her singing abilities, posting snippets of singing videos online before her X Factor debut.

The Love Islander previously dated Adam Collard after leaving last year’s reality show, but is now dating Sam Thompson of Made In Chelsea fame.

Meanwhile, Adam is now dating Irish fitness star Sarah Godfrey.
