The popular YouTuber has over 8 million subscribers

YouTube star Joe Sugg has been confirmed as a contestant for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The 26-year-old, best known for his ThatcherJoe YouTube channel, has 8.2 million subscribers on the platform, and is the younger brother of fellow YouTuber Zoe Sugg aka Zoella.

This is the first time Strictly bosses have booked a self-proclaimed ‘social media star’ for the line-up, and Joe will join the likes of Steps star Faye Tozer, presenter and philanthropist Katie Piper, and Red Dwarf star Danny John-Jules on the show.

Speaking about taking part in Strictly, Joe said, “I’m honestly so chuffed to be involved in the show this year!”

“Not going to lie, I’m very nervous about it, it’s totally out of my comfort zone and I know it will be a huge challenge, but that’s what life is all about I guess.”

“Funnily enough, I’m writing this statement whilst on the way to surprise my grandparents with the news.

“They are going to be so happy, which will definitely make up for any embarrassment or cringe caused by my questionable rhythm.”
