WATCH: Pete Davidson praises Ariana Grande on SNL after she drops new song about him

The pair called off their engagement last month

Pete Davidson publicly praised his ex-fiancée Ariana Grande on Saturday Night Live last night, not long after she dropped a new song about him.

During the weekend update segment of the show, Pete addressed his high-profile split from the pop star.

He said to the camera, “The truth is it’s nobody’s business and sometimes things just don’t work out and that’s OK.”

“She’s a wonderful, strong person and I genuinely wish her all the happiness in the world.”

Pete’s kind words come after Ariana appeared to slam him for joking about their engagement during a promo for the show earlier this week.

In a promo alongside this week’s host Jonah Hill, Pete turned to guest singer Maggie Rogers and asked: “Hey Maggie, I’m Pete. You wanna get married?”

Ariana didn’t seem to appreciate the joke, as she tweeted, “For somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh,” before adding, “thank u, next.”

Then right before SNL aired on NBC last night, Ariana dropped her new single, titled ‘thank u, next’, in which she references her failed engagement to Pete, and her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller – who passed away suddenly back in September.
