Cameo: Producers hope famous guest stars will bring in more viewers

A source told the Star: “We plan to approach the likes of Colin Farrell as he is a proud Dubliner and Red Rock is a quintessentially Dublin drama.

“Red Rock is now pulling an average of 225,000 watchers  per episode and we want to consolidate that figure and continue to grow it.”

“Offering a star like Colin a role on the show would of course generate a lot of publicity and draw non-traditional fans.

“Love/Hate actor Peter Coonan who played Fran, is another potential cameo candidate as he has said on Ireland AM that he likes Red Rock.”

Red Rock would be following in the footsteps of rival soap Fair City who have previously given cameo roles to Irish stars like Gay Byrne, Marty Whelan and Larry Logan.

The TV3 series recently hit out at RTE for trying to “kill” the soap after they switched the broadcast of  ratings winner Operation Transformation to go up against Red Rock.
