The X Factor is reportedly ‘over as we know it’ – as Simon Cowell plots huge celebrity revamp

The show's ratings have been dwindling for years

The X Factor is reportedly “over as we know it”, as Simon Cowell is plotting a huge celebrity revamp.

According to the Daily Star, the music mogul wants to “freshen up” the show’s format by casting celebrities – instead of normal members of the public.

A source said, “The decision has been made to drop X Factor in its current form. It has been 100% axed. The show is done.”

“It’s being replaced by a show that’ll only be for celebrities. Members of the public won’t get to take part. So viewers won’t see new talent being discovered anymore. It’s the end of an era.”

Meanwhile, sources have told the Daily Mirror that the new show format will be like “Strictly Come Dancing with singers.”

An insider claimed, “Imagine Strictly but with singers. That’s the plan being talked about at present. There is no doubt the X Factor format needs freshening up – this is it.”

Back in November 2016, Coronation Street actor Bradley Walsh released his debut album – and it became the biggest-selling debut album by a British artist in 2016, selling 111,650 copies.

Another source said, “Bradley Walsh was the biggest selling artist of 2016. They could find a similar type of celebrity not known for their musical skills – and make them even more of a star.”

The Mirror has also reported that there will be a separate X Factor champions segment in the new series – featuring stars from X Factor shows all over the world.
