Sybil Mulcahy QUITTING TV3 – as she takes redundancy from the station

Presenter Sybil Mulcahy has revealed she is set to take redundancy from TV3.

The Ballymount broadcaster will leave our screens after fronting five weeks of her new primetime show, Life, which starts on February 20.

Now the 40-year-old – who has worked in news, morning TV and Xpose – said she has decided to run so she can “be there” for her kids.

She added: “I can’t believe this news got out — I only told one or two people today.

“I’m going to be working with TV3 on a freelance basis from now on, with another project lined up for June.”

This means that Sybil will still be pitching programmes, but won’t be seen as much on TV3 – and could now pop up on RTE or UTV Ireland.

A TV3 source told the Irish Sun: “Sybil is not leaving broadcasting. She just wants to examine all the options before she decides on future TV projects. She is very popular and will be missed in TV3.”

Recently, Sybil – who used to present the Morning Show with Martin King – said she wanted to take a break for more time with kids Hugh, eight, Genevieve, six, and Michael, two.

She said: “I don’t know how long I am going to be in TV. Am I going to be doing this when I am 50?

“I don’t know. I wouldn’t mind being there for the kids when they are in secondary school. It’s something I’d like to be able to do.”
