Ryan Tubridy warns rival Toy Show host Brian McFadden: 'I WILL be watching – don't patronise the kids'

RTE star Ryan Tubridy has warned rival TV3 Toy Show host Brian McFadden: “Don’t patronise the kids”.

The Late Late Toy Show presenter says he won’t “fall out” with the former Westlife star over their version of the show on Friday evening – but warned he will be watching.

Asked if he’s be watching, Tubs told Goss.ie: “I’ll be working and rehearsing. I think it’s nice, it’s a good idea. I’ll watch it the next day or something.

“But I wish them well. It’s a Toy Show! I’m not going to fall out over a few toys I would wish him well. It’s a Toy Show! It’s Christmas!

“I don’t think he needs advice – but treat the children like they’re children but don’t patronise them. They’re smarter than they think.”

Meanwhile, Tubridy told Goss.ie that he is “really happy” with how plans for the Late Late Toy Show are coming – after starting a year ago.

Speaking at the launch of the SVP’s Annual Appeal, he said: “There is a theme, I am really happy with it because it’s something I’ve been thinking about since the night of the Toy Show last year.

“And it’s looking good. I’ve had a little rehearsal for the opening number and all I’ll say is God help us all, everyone.”

But Tubridy is starting to wish he didn’t allow the public to design the jumper he’ll wear on the day – after getting so many “bonkers” designs.

He added: “I don’t know what the last count is, but I’ve seen some of them. They are, and I don’t mean this disrespectfully, but they are quite bonkers and they have come from the minds of some serious talented craft women and men.

“Mostly women. And they come out of the envelopes in the office and the colleagues shout, ‘Put it on!’ So I have to. None have my face on, my name features a lot.

“There are a lot of Tubs and there are a lot of owls. Many owls. We just felt I was wearing jumpers that were getting into a similar groove.

“We wanted to go totally differently, and so what we did was we decided to change it altogether. We have a jumper committee and they’re reviewing.”
