Ruth Negga’s series Preacher renewed for second season

Ruth Negga’s series Preacher has been renewed for a second season in the US.

The series, which is based on cult comic written by Co. Down native Garth Ennis, was named as the number two-rated new show on cable in the US this year in the 18-49 and 25-54 age groups with an average audience of 3.3m per episode.

The show premiered back in May on US network AMC, the channel behind The Walked Dead and Breaking Bad.

“Preacher is a special television programme and we’re eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season,” President of AMC, Charlie Collier.

“We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond,” he added.

Preacher follows the story of Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a Texan preacher who becomes possessed by a supernatural creature, and Ruth plays his his ex-girlfriend, dangerous criminal Tulip O’Hare.

The news comes after Ruth has been tipped for Oscar success next year for her performance in new film Loving, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last month.
