RTE celebrate as nearly a MILLION people tune in to first episode of Love/Hate

Nearly a million people tuned in to the killer first episode of Love/Hate, it has been revealed.

RTE were celebrating as 976,400 watched last night’s episode – where Lizzie was gunned down by Glen.

Bosses had been hoping to start on a high, after just over a million people watched season four’s finale.

A spokeswoman said: “Amazing figures for the return of Love/Hate. The average viewership was 976,400, with a share of 56% making it the most-watched opening episode of Love/Hate to date.”

“56% of all people watching TV tuned in to see the return of Nidge, Fran, Elmo, Siobhan, Trish and the gang to our screens, with nearly 1.3 million viewers tuning in at some point during the transmission.”

And it wasn’t just TV viewers who watched the show yesterday.

The RTÉ Player also saw high demand for Love/Hate with a total of “27,500 streams for last night’s first episode. ”
RTÉ Head of Drama Jane Gogan said:

“I’m delighted with the audience response to this new series. Stuart Carolan’s writing gets better and better and has the backing of tremendous creative energy and commitment from the team of cast and crew.

“This audience reaction is the highest accolade.”

This morning, Caoilfhionn Dunne – who plays Lizzie – admitted she was warned she was going to be killed off.
