Naomi Watts set to star in Game of Thrones prequel series

The actress is the first star to be cast in the series

Naomi Watts is set to star in HBO’s Game Of Thrones prequel series.

The TV series is being written by Jane Goldman, who wrote X-Men: First Class, and Naomi is the first cast member to be confirmed for the project.

Production will kick start next year, and Naomi is set to play “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret”.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the prequel will take place “thousands of years” before the events in Game Of Thrones.

It’s also been reported that the show will document “the world’s descent from the golden Age Of Heroes into its darkest hour.”

“And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”

Jane Goldman co-created the project with Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin.

As well as serving as showrunner, Jane and George will executive produce alongside Daniel Zelman, James Farrell, Jim Danger Gray, and Game of Thrones executive producer Vince Gerardis.

Meanwhile, the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will premiere in 2019.
