Moone Boy creators planning a Hollywood film of the show

Moone Boy could be set to break Hollywood – as the creators want to rush a film of the show.

The IFTA winning comedy is now in talks for a big screen version before its youngest stars grow up too much.

Already David Rawle, who plays Martin Moone in the Roscommon-set show, is 13 and Ian O’Reilly who plays Padraic is 14.

Co-writer Nick Vincent Murphy, who works with Chris O’Dowd on the show, said: “We feel that we want to end it in a big way and we are not sure how we want to do that.

Growing up: Creators are worried they’ll be too old

“The boys are growing up so it’s a series with a short shelf-life. Ian’s voice has just broken. So you can’t have an imaginary friend for ever, so this story is going to end and we’re figuring how to end it.

“Chris and I are writing two Moone Boy novels. It’s kind of a prequel – it’s really about how Martin Moone ended up with this imaginary friend.

“There will be two for the moment, we will see how the Irish population like them.”

The Sky One show took home the IFTA awards for Best Entertainment TV programme and Best TV Director.
