Meet Love/Hate's newest character… and the crew already know him well

Love/Hate’s newest character is well known to the stars of the hit show – because he created it.

Boss Stuart Carolan – who is the brains behind the RTE series – has a small role in the new season.

Insiders revealed the 43-year-old IFTA winner is seen walking on in a key scene, and stays on screen for a number of seconds.

“Stuart has always stayed behind the cameras and let his characters take all the glory in the show,” a source told the Star.

Boys are back in town: filming has finished on latest fifth season

“But there were talks with director David Caffrey and it was decided to give him a small role”.

The news comes as Love/Hate is now heading to be edited after filming finished last month after a number of scenes in Spain were filmed.

Previously Stuart – who admitted he shouldn’t have killed off Aidan Gillen’s character John Boy – revealed he hates killing off his characters.

Death: Stuart admits it was hard to kill people like Debbie

He said: “It’s incredibly difficult to kill a character off but the reason you do it is because it’s important.

“Debbie died and we’re doing a show about drug addiction and heroin and it was four seasons before we showed someone who took an overdose.

“It wasn’t a ‘will she die or not’, we just showed this horrible tragedy of overdose.

“You want to be honest sometimes – it’s important to show that.”
