Love/Hate's Lizzie: 'I wasn't surprised about being killed off… I EXPECTED it'

Actress Caoilfhionn Dunne has revealed she wasn’t shocked when she found out she was being killed off in the new season of Love/Hate.

The star who played Lizzie in the award winning show said she was given a heads up by Love/Hate bosses before learning of her death.

“I was kind of prepared for it before hand. I had been given a heads up so it wasn’t a shock. To be honest, I was more surprised that she had returned,” she said.

“I had met (the writer) Stuart in the street and he had asked if I wouldn’t mind coming back for a little turn in Season 5. I said I’d be more than happy to.”

“It didn’t really hit me until we had finished filming the scenes and I was saying my goodbyes to the crew. That was strange,” she explained.

Despite being sad to lose the role, Caoilhionn said she feels lucky to have had the experience.

“This show has been such a big part of my life for the last three years and these people have become like family to me so it was difficult,” she said.

“But at the same time I would never want Lizzie to outstay her welcome.”

“In that I mean, that I don’t want to play a character that has served her purpose and is hanging around with no direction.”

“There’s no room for ego in this. The story comes first. I don’t know where else there was for her to go.”

Meanwhile the actress revealed she wished her character Lizzie and Nidge had got to meet during the series.

“It was such a pleasure to be part of such a great show. If I have one niggle it’s that Lizzie and Nidge never met. Well face to face. But maybe that’s a good thing,” she revealed.
