Love/Hate's Aidan Gillen: 'Local kids think I'm actually gangster John Boy'

Love/Hate star Aidan Gillen has revealed that children who live near him truly believe he is a real-life gang boss.

The Dublin actor, 45, played feared John Boy in the RTE series until being killed off in season two.

But Aidan said: “It troubles me that the kids out there think I am John Boy. They’re like ‘Can we come up to the apartment?

“Have you got your money hidden up there under the floorboards?’

“There’s a school around the corner and every day at lunchtime, every one of those kids greets me as John Boy. It did used to bother me when people called me Stuart, my character from Queer As Folk.

“If they’re doing it, it means that they buy it. And now I’d rather they called me John Boy, than Aidan.”

However Game of Thrones star Aidan – speaking on the An Irishman Abroad podcast – admitted he is in no rush to crack America.

He said: “I’m not in a rush to be a Hollywood star. The most interesting bit is the stuff along the way.

“I feel like I’m starting out. That may seem like an odd thing to say but that’s what I feel like.”
