Laurence Kinlan: 'Every season finale of Love/Hate was written as if the show was NEVER coming back'

Love/Hate star Laurence Kinlan has admitted every season finale was written as if the show was never coming back.

The TV actor – who plays Elmo in the show – said Stuart Carolan was never aware whether RTE would bring back the series.

And to ensure fans would never miss out if Love/Hate wasn’t renewed, he wrote every season finale with the idea of it being the final episode.

End? Laurence doesn’t know if Love/Hate should come back | RTE

He said: “For every year we’ve done, Stuart always said that he would write the final episode with the idea of it being the last – except season four where he knew and we knew we were definitely going back to do a fifth series.”

Already RTE have confirmed that there will be no new season in 2015, with a possible sixth coming in 2016.

But Laurence admitted that he is unsure whether Love/Hate should return for another series.

“I don’t know if it should come back to be honest. It was an amazing five years and it’s gone out on such a high if it is the last one,” he told TV3’s Late Lunch Live.

Happy to return: Laurence would come back if asked | RTE

“He wrote it like a last and it looked like a last episode. I thought there were so many things in it that were tied up great.”

But Laurence added that if creator Stuart Carolan “spends enough time on it like he wants to and they decide to make a sixth and he will make it special then I would love to be involved.”
