Late Lunch Live moved by TV3 in final bid to boost dwindling ratings

TV3 have moved Late Lunch Live in a last-ditch bid to finally boost their minute viewership and save it from being axed.

The afternoon show – which used to go out at 2.30pm – has had an average of just 25,900 tuning in daily.

But now the programme, which is hosted by Lucy Kennedy and Martin King, has been shifted in the schedule to start at 3.30pm.

And TV3 could decide to cancel Late Lunch Live if the show doesn’t get higher audience after the move, one of the presenters has admitted.

It is still an hour behind when RTE One’s Today, which is on a Summer break, goes out and had taken in an average audience of 105,100.

Worried: Lucy Kennedy fears they might not get another season with current ratings

Insiders said it is likely TV3 have decided moving the show is the only change of getting higher ratings.

When contacted by Goss.ie a TV3 spokeswoman admitted they are hoping to get a higher audience now. “Late Lunch has been performing very well in its slot but there’s no doubt it will pick up more in the later one,” she explained.

Recently Lucy admitted that she wasn’t happy with the ratings and expected it to get a higher audience if the show went out later.

“The ratings for the show are not amazing. But that’s nothing to do with content, it’s to do with timing,” she said.

Rivals: Daithi and Maura have much bigger numbers tuning in

“The show is bang in the middle of the school run so it’s difficult to keep hold of people. That’s the problem. We lose a chunk of people who are en route to the school gate.

“It’s something we are discussing with the boss Jeff Ford. We don’t know if we have another season, the show is being monitored closely but it usually takes a year for a programme like this to find its feet and build up an audience.”
