Kathryn Thomas: I want to take over the Late Late Show… it needs a female host

Kathryn Thomas has told how he wants to take over the Late Late Show – and feels it needs a female host next.

But the Voice host wants Miriam O’Callaghan to be the first woman, admitting “she would be a great choice” to take on the historic role.

And Kathryn would then be able to produce her own chat show in place of Saturday Night With Miriam, insisting that is something she “would be suited to”.

She told Goss.ie: “I’d love to do a chat show – I think it is something I would be suited to. Is there is an opportunity I see there at the moment? Not yet.

“But there will be down the line, I imagine. I would like to do the Late Late Show – but I’d like to do a Kathryn Thomas chat show before I do the Late Late.

“I want to make my mark, I think it’s important that you learn your craft as you go. The Late Late is probably the pinnacle. But there’s lots to do before getting there.”

And Kathryn admits that going international could be part of that plan – after refusing to rule out a move to the US or UK.

“I think it’s good to always keep your options. But at the same time, I’m very aware that I’ve been working successfully here for so long,” she explained.

“I’ve never been out of work. I love working to and for an Irish audience. So I’ve not worked overseas before, in the UK or in the States. I’ve been traveling over there.

“So would I be interested? Yes, if the right project came along. I don’t think there would be nerves though, at this stage in my career.

“If you’d said it to me five years ago, where I hadn’t done three seasons of a big shiny floor, live show, yes. But I think I’m confident enough now in my own abilities. A studio is a studio.”

Recently, Kathryn moved to Noel Kelly’s PR agency after more than a decade at Joanne Byrne’s agent, with occasional BBC fill in Ryan Tubridy now one of her agency pals.

She was speaking at the launch of Tesco’s Community Fund Initiative, which sees the supermarket giving €1 million each year to good causes.
