Irish Dancing With The Stars producer: ‘Celebrities will find it tough’

Producer of Irish Dancing With The Stars Larry Bass has admitted celebrities signing up for the show need to be prepared to do some serious work.

Production company ShinaWil, you have produced Dragon’s Den, The Apprentice, The Voice of Ireland and Popstars – will bring Irish Dancing With The Stars to RTE.

Speaking about attaining the format on 2FM’s The Nicky Byrne Show, Larry admitted taking part in the series is no easy task.

“You’ll only get as far in the competition as you put into it,” he said.

“There will be people who rehearse and rehearse and they’ll do well and then there will be people who won’t, and that gives you that level of drama,” he admitted.

“We’re going to have a rich mix (of stars), there will be people at the start you want to win and can win and you won’t more than one, you want people to really be battling it out.

Larry admitted that “BBC weren’t comfortable with it” at first.

“It is their number one format, it’s in over 65 countries.

“The reason I wanted to go after it – there are very few shows you can turn around and put on air and know it’s going to be a hit.

“It’s one of those shows, the whole family can sit down and watch it.

Meanwhile Larry admitted that he gave a dream list to RTE when he was pitching the series – but hadn’t spoken to any of the stars.

“When we were pitching the show we would have given notional lists and to sort of give a flavour to the sort of list we’d look at.

“Of course we hadn’t spoke to anybody,” he admitted.

“You’ll only get as far in the competition as you put into it,” he said.

Only 11 celebrities will be chosen to compete in the show – which will last 12 weeks.
