Game of Thrones bosses attack Northern Ireland as 'horrible place to live'

Game of Thrones bosses have got in a row with Northern Ireland after claiming it’s a horrible place to live.

Crew on the HBO show are forced to work there for up to six months of the year while filming the show.

But Michael Lombardo, president of programming at the US network, said the show’s two producers found it a “personal challenge” to live in Northern Ireland.

He added: “It’s a little bit of a personal challenge I don’t think they contemplated when we initially found our location in Belfast; what that meant for them personally.

“Belfast is not the most cosmopolitan of cities to spend half of the year.”

And when asked if the producers, Dan Weiss and David Benioff, have a “hard time” he told Vulture: “I don’t think they have a hard time, but the good news is: work keeps them busy. Let’s just say that.”

The remarks will annoy Northern Ireland after HBO won the global ambassador award at the Northern Ireland Tourism Awards last month and has been given grants of more than €12m to film in in the country.
