Fair City star reveals that she became homeless after leaving the show

Fair City star, Stephanie Kelly, has revealed that she became homeless after leaving the soap.

The actress, who plays Sash Bishop, revealed to the Mirror that she was forced to live in emergency accommodation for a year.

“I tried to find apartments but no one would accept the rent supplement and I had to register as homeless.”

The star left the soap in 2012, as she was expecting a baby.

“I was in a B&B. I cried non-stop the whole first night,” she admitted.

And even at that, she said she saw people “who had it worse”.

“It made me appreciate even having that room – at least I had somewhere to go. But to be back on Fair City now and seeing Nikki being homeless, talking about the social – it’s mirroring my life. It was such a difficult time.”

The 29-year-old mum had to live in a B&B with her child after her first stint on Fair City.

And now, her real life experience is being highlighted in the soap, as she is in the middle of a homelessness storyline.

Sash returned to Carrigstown in 2015 and now cares for Nikki Duff’s children as their mother lives in emergency accommodation.

She revealed to the Mirror that the storyline has brought back hard memories, but she is happy that the show is covering the issue.
