Eoghan McDermott blasts the Voice UK as 'sterile' and dull – despite having more money than RTE

The Voice of Ireland host Eoghan McDermott has blasted the UK version of the show, insisting it’s “sterile”.

The RTE star feels that the Irish version of the singing competition is “more fun” than the BBC interpretation.

And Eoghan believes that gives them a winning formula – even if they don’t have as much money to throw at the production when they start back filming next month.

More fun: Eoghan believes that UK version is boring | RTE

He said: “Even though RTE doesn’t have the big budget like they do for the UK version, I still think ours is more fun.

“Don’t get my wrong, I really like the UK show, but for all its bling it can be a little sterile.

“Their coaches are amazingly talented and all that, but it’s more serious. I like we’ve freedom to mess around a bit and do funny dance numbers or give Kathryn Thomas a smooch on stage.

“So to me that’s our big strength. We really do hold our own, in my view.”

The 2FM presenter told the Herald he doesn’t know what’s happening with the coaches for this year’s season.

But he insists that they are all planning to “keep pushing to make the show better”.

He added: “For all their bickering on screen, Kian and Bressie do in fact get along. It’s friendly all round.”
