Dáithí Ó Sé thought Rose of Tralee invader was a ‘pure stitch up’

Dáithí Ó Sé has revealed what went through his head when the stage was invaded at the Rose of Tralee.

The Kerry native was interrupted as he was chatting to the Cavan Rose by a Father4Justice protester.

“The Rose invader, I thought actually for a second I was being set up!” he said.

The presenter admitted that he thought that he was being set up when the man dressed as a priest stormed the stage.

“I saw this fella coming on the stage and I said ‘Why don’t they tell me about these things!'” he told Ian Dempsey on his Today FM breakfast show.

“I can play along with these fellas and then he says something like ‘Farmers for justice.’

“I said ‘Jesus this is a pure stitch up!'”

The Rose of Tralee host also admitted that the audience probably thought it was all part of the show.

“Then this clown was next to me and he wasn’t going away,” he continued.

“The audience expected a bit of a gag because we do leave ourselves open for stuff like that on the show. And it’s a bit of craic and we should keep doing that.”

Dáithí has a very simple idea for sorting out any more “clowns” jumping on stage.

“Nothing a 2×4 couldn’t sort!”

No problem: The host admitted that the Roses are entitled to their opinion while on stage | RTE

The 40-year-old also revealed that Roses are fully entitled to their own opinion when he was asked about the Sydney Rose’s powerful speech on the Repeal the 8th movement.

“Roses go on stage, they’re fully entitled to their opinion.”

“They can say that stuff if they believe in it and I’ve no problem at all with that,” he added.
