Bringing work home: RTE news star Bryan Dobson forced to stop interviewing his daughters over dinner

RTE newsreader Bryan Dobson has admitted his daughters have to tell him to stop interviewing them at home.

The 6.01 legend revealed that he started early in journalism, with his family as his first interview subjects.

And Dobbo has kept it up – with daughters Sophie and Hannah put under the microscope over the dinner table.

He said: “My sister recently uncovered an old tape of me as a 13-year-old in which I was interviewing my family.

“In fact my daughters now sometimes say to me over dinner, ‘Stop interviewing us dad,’ when I would asked them how their day was or what they did.”

Meanwhile Bryan revealed he has considered quitting RTE – but his dead dad stopped him.

He admitted he has contemplated a new career over the 27 years he has spent with the State broadcaster.

But Dobbo said his father James – who passed away over 20 years ago – stops him from ever leaving Montrose.

He said: “I didn’t think in my 30s that I’d still be in RTE in my 50s because for a lot of my early working life I moved between jobs.

“Over the years, when I occasionally thought about leaving RTE, I could hear my father’s voice in my head saying, ‘Are you mad? You have a good job there so why would you want to leave it?”

But Bryan told the RTE Guide that it’s most likely he’ll be forced out in 20 years even if he does decide to stay.

He added: “News now moves so fast. In 20 years time we may not have newsreaders any more either, but then no job lasts forever.”
