Baz Ashmawy scouted ‘bingo halls and community centres’ for mammies

Baz Ashmawy has revealed that he scouted bingo halls and community centres for mammies to join his show.

The presenter’s Sky 1 show 50 Ways To Kill Your Mammy is going into it’s third season.

“We went to different places to find them. We couldn’t go through casting agents so we went to community centres, bingo halls – places you’d find people my mum’s age loitering around,” he said.

The RTÉ star admitted that they wanted to find real people for the show and not mammies who wanted to be on TV.

“We’d approach them or go out to meet them, I might chat to them face to face or over Skype,” he told the Irish Mirror.

“We had an amazing response and from that we just picked our favourites.

“We didn’t want mammies who wanted to be on TV, we wanted real people and that’s the great thing about the ladies. They pop on camera – it’s the same as Nancy’s appeal.”

Holiday: Ann thought she was getting a free holiday when she heard about the show | TWITTER

New recruit Ann also admitted that she thought she was getting a free holiday when she heard about the show.

“Nobody encouraged me. A friend of my daughters told me something about a free holiday and I thought great. I rang up innocently, I didn’t have a clue, and when they told me I said, ‘No way,'” she revealed.

“A day later they came and met me. I didn’t think anything of it.

“A few days after they told me Sky liked me and wanted me to come along. I have no regrets.”

50 Ways to Kill Your Mammies will air on Sky 1 from Monday 26th September at 9pm.
