Gossip Girl producer reveals if the original cast will appear in the remake

Iconic teen series Gossip Girl is confirmed for a modern reboot.

Rather than re-telling the tales of Upper East-siders such as Blair Waldorf and Serena Van Der Woodsen, the series will follow a brand new cast as they navigate the drama of being part of Manhattan’s elite in the social media savvy modern day – in an era where everyone is a bit of a Gossip Girl.

The original characters will also not be re-imagined, the new cast will be compiled of totally original new characters.

Producer Josh Schwartz explained that the former actors have been informed about the new series, and that it would be “great” to see them make an appearance on the show.

“We’ve reached out to all of them to let them know it was happening and we’d love for them to be involved if they want to be involved, but certainly didn’t want to make it contingent,” Josh explained to Entertainment Tonight.

“They played these characters for six years, and if they felt like they were good with that, we want to respect that, but obviously … it would be great to see them again.”

The new series will be set almost a decade after the original finished up, and will highlight how much technology and social media impacts our lives.

“We thought there was something really interesting about the idea that we are all Gossip Girl now, in our own way, that we are all purveyors of our own social media surveillance state and how that has evolved and how that has mutated and morphed and telling that through a new generation of Upper East Side high school kids,” Josh explained.
