The Goss Lust List: Race day dresses that don’t break the bank

This week on the Goss Lust List, I’m on the hunt for Race Day dresses that fall under a very specific criteria.

Races season is in full swing, and it’s the time of year when my mind wanders to headpieces, heels that stay comfy all day and outrageous hats.

First of all, the race day look I’m seeking has to be unique. Secondly, it needs to be affordable, and lastly it has the be relatively timeless – or at least versatile enough to be worn more than once both dressed up or casual.

Here are a few of my favourite pieces that tick all the boxes:

Summer Sequins

This stunning little white dress comes fully embellished with sequins. The long sleeves make it appropriate for all weather, and when teamed with barely there heels and a pair of pearly-studded clips, it’s the perfect girly races look.

However, add a leather jacket and some boots to wear it to a concert, or throw on a red hairband and some opaque tights and boots to re-wear it at Christmas time.

Bright Ruffles

This tiered mini dress may look plain, but add bright heels and a fascinator in another popping jewel tone and you will completely stand out from the crowd.

Wear a white t-shirt over it, tucked into a belt, to turn those tiers into a mini-skirt for brunch with the girls.

Sleek and Sophisticated Superhero

This elegant dress is a complete showstopper. Add a velvet knotted hairband and a clutch for the ultimate race day look.

Swap out the hairband for a big curly blow dry and add sparkly heels for a party season night out down the line.

The OTT Jumpsuit

Leopard is officially a classic print, and a jumpsuit is always a great choice for the races in a country with weather as changeable as Ireland’s.

Wear with electric blue heels and some gold jewelry during race week, and  then wear it day-to-day with a pair of loafers and a t-shirt underneath.

The Summery Showstopper

This dress pays major homage to the 90s trend that is huge at the moment.

The bright and buttery shade is perfect for summer, and this dress can be brought out again for weddings and holiday dinners for many summers to come.

Perfect Print

This dress has a very classic Race Day silhouette, but the bold pattern keeps things quirky. Add a great structured hat to this dress and watch the Best Dressed judges heads turn.

For formal dinners or evenings out, team the dress with a red lip and slicked back bun.

The Waterfall Gown

This beautiful piece from Folkster has all the hallmarks of a great dress – it comes in a suit-all-skin tones shade, cinches the waist, and has a flattering wrap feature.

Wear it to the races or on every fancy date you have for the rest of your life.

The Embellished One

This midi-dress from Zara means business – and whether you keep it in your wardrobe until party season or wear it racing, add neutral accessories and allow the embellishments to stand out.
