Former Miss Ireland Rebecca Maguire has told of her quest to help cure Alzheimer’s.
The Northern Irish model is a final year studying medicine at Queen’s university in Belfast.
And the 23-year-old revealed she hopes to jump into Alzheimer’s research after graduation next year, after the heartbreak of seeing her granny Marie suffer with it.

She said: “If there was one disease I hope to conduct more research into it would be Alzheimer’s.
“My granny Marie has suffered for a few years now and it is heart-breaking for the entire family.
“You could go up to see her every night and cry your eyes out it’s just so sad but we make the most of our time together, when she says something she wouldn’t normally say we just laugh along with her.
“I read that the number of people suffering with Alzheimers will continue to rise and it runs in families I want to raise awareness of the signs to look out for and publicise the fact that it can be genetic.”

Glamorous Rebecca is currently working with PhD students producing catheters for people with disabilities who can’t use the toilet themselves.
She added: “I’m looking into bacteria adherence figuring out how to make the best product for those people and in turn help make their lives better, it’s such a rewarding experience.”
But the Andrea Roche model insists she knows exactly where her future lies – and it’s as a pharmacist where she “can’t wait to get stuck in”.
She told the Sunday World: “I went to uni because if I didn’t my mummy would’ve killed me!
“She guided me in the right direction because she knew I was academically bright, and I’m so glad she did because I really enjoy pharmacy and I couldn’t picture myself doing anything else.”
