Westlife have admitted the best thing they ever did for their career was split up, as they announced some career-defining news this morning.

Following the success of their comeback tour, the Irish boy band are set to play Wembley Stadium for the first time ever in their 20-year career.

The once-in-a-lifetime gig will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2020 – and they will be supported by James Morrison and All Saints.

They made the announcement at the iconic stadium this morning, and said, “This will be our biggest ever concert in the UK.”

According to the Press Association, Mark Feehily admitted this morning: “The best thing for our career that we’ve ever done is split up.”

“We would not be standing here today announcing we’re playing Wembley Stadium if we did not split up. Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. This is magic. Westlife is like a holiday, and you shouldn’t be on holiday all the time.”

Shane Filan added: “I think the time away did a lot for us individually. You had to learn how to stand on your own two feet.”

“We were babies, we were like teenagers when we started Westlife, and we didn’t know anything but having the lads around you and being a band. I didn’t know what it was like to be an individual.”

Westlife’s longtime manager Louis Walsh said: “All of the big music greats have played Wembley Stadium so it is a proud moment to announce this news today.”

“I’ll be proud of the boys when they take to that giant stage next August. It will be the biggest and best concert of their careers.

“The fact that we’re announcing Wembley shows the enduring popularity of the band. There’s a lot to come from them next year. This is just the start of it.”

Tickets for Westlife’s Wembley Stadium gig go on sale on Friday, September 20 at 9am on LiveNation.co.uk.
