Vogue Williams on Dolores O'Riordan: 'This was not spoiled diva behaviour'

Vogue Williams has spoken about her thoughts on Dolores O’Riordan, and her ‘air rage’ incident that took place on an Aer Lingus flight last year.

The Cranberries singer pleaded guilty at Ennis District Court last week to four separate alleged offences, which she was arrested for at Shannon Airport on November 10, 2014 following a flight from New York.

The singer has since been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and Vogue agrees that that although her mental health should be taken into account, she should still be punished for her actions.

“Everyone’s initial reaction was that this was some spoiled diva behaviour,” Vogue wrote in her Sunday World column.

“However, the Cranberries star has since been diagnosed as suffering from bipolar disorder.

“I am not an expert on what bipolar means but I do know it causes extreme highs and extreme lows and is clearly what caused her to get so aggressive,” she said.

“That said I don’t think head-butting and spitting at Gardai is ever acceptable – or at anyone else for that matter.”

Trying to understand the former Voice of Ireland judge’s actions, Vogue says that “that type of aggression” has to be in you in the first place.

Circumstances: Vogue thinks Dolores should be punished regardless of the circumstances |

“I think to have that type of aggression and attitude towards another human being it has to be in you to begin with,” she explained.

“What I mean by that is, let’s say I was very drunk and got aggressive for some reason, it would never result in me hitting another person because it’s not in me to do that.

“It would never come out in me, regardless of the circumstances,” Vogue added.

“I do think that her mental health needs to be taken into account, but she still should be punished for the incident.”
