Victoria Smurfit hits back at cruel Twitter trolls after Late Late Show appearance

The actress appeared on the show with her 14-year-old daughter Evie

Victoria Smurfit has hit back at cruel Twitter trolls, following her appearance on The Late Late Show.

The Irish actress appeared on the show alongside her 14-year-old daughter Evie, who opened up about being diagnosed with Stargardt’s Macular Dystrophy, an eye condition which eventually leads to blindness.

Their chat with Ryan Tubridy won a lot of praise on social media, but some cruel trolls on Twitter criticised the way Victoria rubbed Evie’s back during their interview.

One person commented: “Rubbing the back it’s so weird! Very strange interview tonight. She looks 24 not 14!”

While another added, “What’s Victoria doing to her daughter’s back? She’s not Helen Keller! The daughter is well able and very strong.”

After noticing the comments, Victoria took to Twitter herself to address the harsh criticism.

She tweeted: “Wow. So apparently I freaked out people by rubbing Evie’s back. She was for the first time going on live tv to talk about the most horrifying thing that has happened in her young life.”

“I am her mum. I literally had her back. I needed her to know I was there for her. Simple.”

Victoria and Evie are raising funds for Irish charity Fighting Blindness, to aid research into curing sight loss.
