Una Healy reveals she bonded with other mums after splitting from Ben Foden: ‘I’m not alone’

The mum-of-two has adjusted to life as a single parent

Una Healy has revealed that she bonded with other mums after splitting from her cheating ex-husband Ben Foden.

The singer has admitted she found comfort in speaking to other mothers who have “been through a similar situation” to her.

Following her split from Ben last year, Una sold their marital home and has since relocated to Birmingham with her two children, Aoife Belle and Tadhg.

Speaking to the Irish Daily Mail’s YOU magazine, Una said: “I think it was nice when I moved house because it’s a whole new scene. Tadhg has just started school so they are both in school, which is new as well.”

“So we all have a new routine which I think is important. It just feels like a whole new era for me. It’s exciting actually.”

“I’ve actually met a few of the other mums at the new school who are going through a similar situation to me, so I know I’m not alone,” she said.

“There are lots of other women out there in my position and we’re all in it together. You’d be surprised where you get the strength from but you have to for your children. You just carry on, you know.”

“Life is not perfectly mapped out for anybody – we all come across bumps along the way. And obviously I had a big bump there but I’m really happy at the minute,” Una explained. “I have adjusted, it’s taken a bit of time but I have adjusted to it now.”

Una’s move to Birmingham was influenced by her new boyfriend David Breen, a sports therapist from Limerick.

The former hurler is based in the UK full time as he works as a physio with English Premiership Rugby side Wasps.

Una said: “We’re not living together but we live down the road from each other so we see each other very regularly.”

“I just wanted to get out of that town I was in so he introduced me to the town I’m in now and it’s one of the most beautiful towns in the UK. I’m really happy there now.”

“It’s lovely because we’re both ex-pats. We’re both so Irish! We come back together a good bit and I just feel at home when I’m with him.”

Una also spoke about how she deals with online trolls, especially after going through such a public break up.

“I try to ignore nasty comments. You get the odd one but they are just trolls, the best thing you can do is ignore them,” she said.

“If you feed them they will get more hungry, it’s like a bloody vampire, so don’t be feeding them. There are so many positive comments out there so I’d rather embrace them than give time to this negativity. I just ignore them.”
