Tom Hanks reveals he once wrote a fan letter to late Irish author Maeve Binchy

Tom Hanks has revealed that he once wrote a fan letter to late Irish author Maeve Binchy.

The award-winning actor has just released a book called Uncommon Type: Some Stories, which is a collection of seventeen wonderful short stories,

Promoting his book at London’s Southbank Centre on Wednesday night, Tom was asked which authors he would like to pick the brains of.

According to the Press Association, Tom recalled picking up a copy of Maeve Binchy’s Light A Penny Candle while on holiday.

“I fell in love with it,” he said. “We all went nuts for her and I read Tara Road, Circle Of Friends – I ended up going on a massive Maeve Binchy thing.”

“I actually wrote her a fan letter and I got a letter back. I thought I should get myself to Dublin and have a nice cup of tea with Maeve.”

When asked what his dream dinner party guests would be, he said Maeve Binchy and sci-fi writer Arthur Clarke.
