Terrie McEvoy opens up about WHY she moved home to Ireland

Terrie McEvoy has revealed why she chose to leave Australia after four years and return home to Ireland.

The social media star opened up about how much she enjoyed living in OZ, but personal issues continued to arise for her and now-husband David Fitzpatrick.

The couple made the choice to return to Ireland after Terrie realized that she was “ignoring” her strong feelings of homesickness.

“Living abroad is so hard, and Iv’e seen comments online throughout the years saying ‘oh Terrie only shows highlights, she doesn’t show the real side’ – Iv’e come on and talked about my issues, it’s just that I didn’t keep going on about them,” she told her 183k followers.

“A lot of things are personal and a lot of things you don’t want to broadcast to a lot of people.”

“When you do go abroad you do run into all of these life problems and you are a million miles away from home when sh*t hits the fan and it’s hard,” she admitted.

“Basically, you might look at someone’s social media of them living abroad and be like ‘oh my God they live the dream and it’s so easy,’ – it’s not. I know and I can speak for so many people living in Australia.”

Terrie explained that she kept pushing her bad feelings about being away from home down, until it came to the point that she couldn’t ignore them any more.

“In a nut shell, I loved living there but I kept having this horrible feeling in my stomach of guilt, of dread, like I wasn’t where I wanted to be and it just kept coming back up. ”

“I would be sitting on the beach and I would be thinking this is amazing, I should be happy, why am I not I happy?'”

“Looking back on it now I was just so homesick. Over the years I just learned to push it all down.”

Terrie also explained that she felt that all of her friends and family were in Ireland, meaning she was thousands of kilometers away from her support network.

“I had very few friends as well because every time I made new friends, they would be there for a year and then they would go and you would be devastated.”

“It was getting to the point where I felt like I had no support system over there. I just missed my people” she said.

“I came home for my hens in May, I was so so home sick and I cried all the way back on the plane.”

This was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Terrie, who spoke to her husband about her feelings and the pair decided to move home.

However, Terrie admits that it has been hard as David would “be happier” in Australia while she feels “so much happier” being in Ireland.

She also explained that logistically, it was very difficult to move home, but she “wouldn’t change it for the world.”

Terrie shared her reasons for moving home to offer advice and support to those in the same position.
